Closest to the Line Challenge
- The object of the challenge is to get your robot closest to the line (without touching or going over the line).
- Students were allowed 30 minutes to test and record data about the distance their robots would travel using different input variables: duration, speed and unit of movement (seconds or wheel rotations).
- Students were then given a specific distance of 80 inches from the starting line and 15 minutes to program their robot to come as close as possible to the line.
- The 4 robots were placed at the starting line together. The winning robot got within 2 inches of the 80" line!
- During their data collection period, the winning team noticed that their robot moved 7" for every wheel rotation at 50 percent speed. How do you think they programmed their robot in order to come closest to the line?
